'As One' pop-up photography exhibition

'As One' pop-up photography exhibition

Traditionally, photography was considered to be a solitary medium in which photographs were captured by a single eye. This theory ignores socially engaged art, in which participants take an active role in their representation. ‘As One’ has been developed collaboratively by photographers Kelly Bryan and Lucy Bedford and four voluntary participants, it aims to dispel this concept whilst developing conversations regarding anxiety. Over a 5-week period, Bryan and Bedford created co-authored work, with the participants and themselves developing three separate elements to help consider and demonstrate issues surrounding anxiety.

A three-part installation is employed to symbolise the more elusive elements of the collaborative process. Voice recordings, answering the question: “What are your opinions, descriptions and/or experiences with anxiety?”, are exhibited alongside photographic and written responses to these initial sound pieces. The two physical responses are hung separately, this allows the audience to view the pieces as one, exaggerating the collaboration between those involved, or to view them separately demonstrating each individual’s work. This immersive experience aims to direct attention towards the construction of ‘As One’, which raises thought-provoking questions regarding the photographic process in co-authored projects.

Drapers' presents Holy Thief EP launch + special guests

Holy Thief launching their new EP:
Brooding, heart wrenching, explosive. Noisemakers from the Midlands since 2016. Think Jeff Buckley fronting Oceansize with Mogwai's rhythm section. - take a listen here::

Elk formed in Coventry at the tail end of 2017 after coming together through the love of hard work and passion for music. The band is made up of 2 welsh men, 1 french man, and an Englishman. Musically the band blends an unavoidable splash of alt American sound (think KOL, TOM PETTY, RYAN ADAMS) into a modern pop/rock feel, resulting in a refreshing and uplifting sound that will leave any music lover wanting to hear more and desperate to know more about this exciting new uk based quartet.

Simon Davies originates from Birmingham and began playing piano and violin from an early age and later explored and found his own style on guitar. He developed his ear as his influences changed and honed in on creating his own sound and songs independently and with others. With early bands such as The Tone Thieves supporting The Ordinary Boys, Nizlopi and Dan Smith (Bastille). He has also worked closely with artists such as The Love Child Electric and Chris Tye (Birmingham Singer Songwriter) and can often be seen with this hypnotic talent alongside Jayne Powell. Simon recently starred on The Voice UK.

An Ig Ma presents Batsch + VEDA

It has been a while since we've hosted a show but this one is set to be good and our first time using drapers new PA system.

28.04.18/PAY AS YOU FEEL ENTRY/20:30-00:00

Batsch are an indie pop quartet based in Coventry, England. Their smart, groove-oriented dance-pop takes nods from classic art rock like Talking Heads as well as modern contemporaries, such as Little Dragon and Dutch Uncles. The band formed in 2013 but the collaborations of singer/guitarist Mason Le Long, bassist Joe Carvell, drummer Matt Rheeston and keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Andy Whitehead date back further. A previous incarnation of the band, DON'T MOVE!, released its only album, 'The New Pop Sound', on Tin Angel Records in 2009. All four members have also toured extensively with other artists, including Laetitia Sadier, Marker Starling, Devon Sproule and Nicholas Krgovich, many of whom are also on Tin Angel's roster, putting Batsch at the epicentre of the British label's cult international scene.

VEDA is the bedroom pop project of multi-instrumentalist, Dominic Antonio Sepúlveda from Birmingham, UK. Supporting groups such as Fufanu, White Fang and Horsebeach, and gaining support from BBC introducing and Richer Unsigned, VEDA finished off 2017 with their first international tour in Spain. Influences include the likes of The Cure, Beach Fossils and Hibou.

Mikey Kenney acoustic set

Join Coventry Socialists in welcoming Mikey Kenney for this free entry fund raiser at Drapers Bar, Earl St. Coventry. Music starts from 8pm, all welcome! We are raising funds as, due to the gentrification of the area, we are being evicted from our national office and are looking for new premises. So come along, have a good time and donate a few quid to help the struggle to build a mass socialist force!

“Mikey Kenney – majestic singer, poetic songwriter, and English folk, Irish, Celtic, Bluegrass and Americana style fiddle player and multi-instrumentalist – could’ve been born any time in the past 500 years, but it’s no coincidence that he is alive and well today; for there are no coincidences in nature or the music that grows from its seed. This is indeed a stroke of luck for today’s booking agents, tavern owners, and all present and future lovers of ‘the real’” - BEARDED MAGAZINE

Check out the venue here: https://www.facebook.com/drapersbarandkitchen/
