Who we are…
“We are different”
We strive to stand out from the crowd, and offer something you won’t find anywhere else in the city centre. As an independent bar, we get to make our own rules, we try to offer our customers the latest in food and drink, with good, old fashioned customer service. We are always looking for the next best thing when it comes to food and drink, we will always have new and exciting beers, coupled with food a la mode (but of course, there’s always room for a few old favourites!). We try to break the mould with our entertainment, by facilitating alternative events such as Jazz Jam Nights and Flamenco at the Bar, we hope to whet your appetite for culture and creativity.
“We are a social hub”
We pride ourselves on bringing together the community by offering a safe, unprejudiced space. We welcome local businesses, students and community causes to use the space, be it for meetings, as an exhibition space or as a place to discuss issues with like-minded people. We promote community by welcoming people from all walks of life, we believe that everyone should be treated equally and with compassion. We work closely with established, local charitable causes, such as Arabian Bites and Grapevine to not only provide a space for them, but help promote their community values. We offer opportunities for young and aspiring artists to perform with our open mic nights, to give the up and coming talents of Coventry a place to improve and meet other artists.
“We are customer driven”
We keep the customer at the heart of everything we do. We are constantly looking for ways to improve the customer experience and gain feedback on our efforts. We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service and do everything with a smile. We value every customer equally, whether we see you every day for lunch or once a year at Christmas, you’re loyalty is important to us and you will receive the same level of customer service each time you visit. No question is too small, we are happy to guide you through our food and drink and make recommendations where we can.
“We are environmentally conscious”
We are aware of our carbon footprint and take as many measures as we can to limit our impact on the environment. For example, we use local suppliers wherever possible, we keep our light usage to a minimum, we recycle everything we can and we use reusable, glass bottle sauces and paper straws to avoid plastic wastage
“We value our employees”
We offer the living wage to all our employees and a pension scheme to all employees aged 21 and over. We also offer jobs to students wherever we can to support their university journey.
A word from our Head Chef…
“The reason I chose to work at Drapers over other restaurants is because it is independent. I have worked for several chain restaurants, golf clubs and university kitchens and never found the freedom I have found here.
Drapers gives me the chance to stand out from the crowd. I have had the opportunity to write my own menus, create themed evenings and experiment more with unusual ingredients for events such as ‘Drunk Pudding Club’ and our ‘Whisky and Cheese Pairing Evening’.
As well as finding this freedom, I have also realised that so many restaurants do not take responsibility for their actions or show due diligence in reducing their carbon footprint. I have experienced first-hand how restaurants do not take responsibility for factors such as: limiting their use of non-biodegradable packaging, not recycling [because of the cost factors], not supporting local suppliers or using sustainable ingredients [includes making the most of seasonal produce]. But here is different.
Our aim as an independent bar and kitchen is to take full advantage of having carte blanche when it comes to menu development, choosing suppliers and supporting local trade. We are a charity run business who also proudly supports other local businesses and companies in any way we can. For example, hosting degree shows, offering free meeting spaces and providing space for local music artists to perform.
Moving forward, we are filling up the diary with both food and drink events. We now change our menus seasonally and we have recently introduced a page to our menu for a local artists to showcase their interpretation of Drapers. I will continue to create new dishes, follow currents trends and always have a respectable selection of both vegetarian and vegan dishes…
But I am always open to suggestions for something new.”
Sarah Jenkins, Head Chef
